The cast iron paper weights are made to resemble a button and are individually cast and then painted. They can be used as weights to hold down fabric when sewing, and as pencil holders.
Nambu ironware is made in the Oisei Iron Foundry in Iwate (in Mizusawa-ku Haneda), also known as a "casting town" where many iron casting companies are located. The naturally textured surface of the iron will smooth with wear over time.
