Hakone parquet is a traditional craft working with the many colours from the wood of the trees in Hakone  to make wood "mosaics". The parquet patterning was made into items such as boxes. For Cohana, Hakone parquet has made a flower shaped head for marking pins with various coloured pieces of wood.

Produced by Mr. Gin, a parquet technician who is a Hakone craftsman and respected for his knowledge and expertise. He has lectured about his craft and has participated in woodworking technology reconstruction projects in places such as Kyrgyzstan.

The soft natural colour unique to solid wood lends itself to creating patterns from contrasting types of wood. Each of the parquet flowers is given it's own individual look.

The pins are produced in Hiroshima, which has a history of about 300 years as a needle producing area. The parquet marking pin is a thickness and length which suits most sewing projects.
