These small scissors with excellent sharpness are made by Hasegawa Hamono in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, one of Japan's leading cities for cutlery. The handles are made of pure gold and feature lines of gold lacquer that give off a noble luster. These special scissors have a smooth texture unique to lacquer, and the more you use them, the more you will love them. They come with a white leather case and a snowflake charm, inspired by winter camellias blooming in a snowy landscape.

These small scissors have thin, delicate blades that make them easy to use for detailed work, and are recommended for both crafts and needlework.

The secret to the comfortable sharpness of these small scissors lies in the final process, where the craftsman finishes the blade by hand one by one. In the final sharpening process, the blade is strengthened by "Kobabiki" (a process where the blade is sharpened to make it less likely to chip), and the edge is smoothed by "Sakiri" (a process where the blade is sharpened). The blade is then adjusted to further improve the precision of the sharpness. These final processes require the skilled technique and intuition of the craftsman.

Handling Precautions

  • The blade is sharp, so please be careful when handling it.
  • If you try to cut something hard, it can damage the blade or cause the blade to lose its sharpness due to poor alignment.
  • Dropping or subjecting it to strong impact may cause damage.
  • To prevent rust, be sure to wipe the scissors dry thoroughly if they get wet.
  • To prevent the scissors from rusting or the lacquer from discoloring, avoid storing them in direct sunlight or in hot, humid places.
  • Lacquer and gold lacquer are very delicate. Do not use hard cloths or abrasives to clean them as they will get scratched.
  • After use, wipe it with the included cleaning cloth and store it in the case.
  • The case is made of genuine leather and may stretch slightly. Also, if it gets wet with water or sweat, it may cause discoloration or stains.
  • In rare cases, some people may have an allergic reaction to lacquer depending on their constitution. If you experience any abnormalities, discontinue use and consult a doctor.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
